Border restrictions in place in Garo Hills

Tura, Aug 7: In view of the prevailing unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Jagadish Chelani on Wednesday imposed night curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM up to 200 metres from the Zero line of the international border in the entire district.

The order prohibits movement of people at the international border with the intention to cross, unauthorized possession of arms or sticks as well as assembly of 5 or more persons and illegal activities like smuggling cattle, contraband etc.

Meanwhile, a similar order with the same prohibitions, was also passed by the South Garo Hills District Administration on the same day. In South West Garo Hills, the order also prohibiting similar activities was issued a day earlier on Tuesday.
