SHILLONG, Aug 27: A synergy between the BSF, local police, customs and Land Ports Authority of India led to successful recovery of contraband items loaded in the Shillong-Dhaka Maitri Bus on Monday. Moreover, three Bangladeshi bus staff members who were returning to Bangladesh through ICP Dawki were also apprehended.
The operation was initiated by the 4th Battalion BSF on receiving specific inputs.
During the operation, BSF troops seized a substantial amount of silver, sarees and electronic items, including mobile phones, headphones, and mobile accessories worth over Rs 48 lakh hidden in the bus’s cavities. Upon questioning, the bus staff failed to produce any valid documents for these items. The seized goods and the apprehended Bangladeshi nationals were handed over to the Customs Office at Dawki for further investigation and legal action.
