M’laya clinch Subroto Cup Sub-Juniors title

Shillong, Aug 28: Nongiri Presbyterian Secondary School from Meghalaya emerged as the champions of the 63rd Subroto Cup International Football Tournament Sub-Junior Boys category, with a commanding 3-0 victory over Major Dhyanchand Sports College, Uttar Pradesh.
The final match took place at the Army Service Corps Centre, where Prosperwell Ryntong’s brace and a late goal by Namebanlam Nongkseh secured the title for the Meghalaya team.
Nongiri Presbyterian took the lead in the very first minute of the match, stunning their opponents with a swift attack. Prosperwell Ryntong’s precise finish found the top corner, leaving the Uttar Pradesh goalkeeper with no chance. The Meghalaya side dominated the first half, consistently threatening the opposition’s defense. Despite hitting the crossbar twice and forcing several saves, they managed to maintain their slender lead until halftime.
In the second half, Prosperwell doubled the lead, capitalizing on an error by the Uttar Pradesh goalkeeper who failed to collect a free-kick, allowing the striker to slot the ball into an open net. Nongiri Presbyterian continued to play with confidence and flair, and substitute Namebanlam Nongkseh sealed the victory with a neat finish, putting the game beyond doubt.The champions were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 4,00,000, while the runners-up received Rs. 2,00,000. The semi-finalists were awarded Rs. 50,000 each, and the quarterfinalists received Rs. 25,000 each.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, BAH Hamletson Dohling, President of the Meghalaya Football Association, congratulated the team, saying, “The Meghalaya Football Association extends our warmest congratulations to Team Meghalaya, represented by Nongiri Presbyterian Secondary School, for being crowned champions of the U15 International Subroto Cup 2024.
This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, skill, and hard work of the players and coaching staff.“The team’s outstanding performance throughout the tournament has brought immense pride to our state and showcased the exceptional talent nurtured at Nongiri Presbyterian Secondary School. We also recognize the vital support from the school’s administration and the unwavering encouragement of the parents, all of whom have played an essential role in this success. Congratulations once again on this well-deserved victory. We look forward to celebrating many more achievements in the future.”
