SHILLONG, Sep 3: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh met three nurses from Meghalaya who are currently employed at Tsurumaki Onsen Hospital in Japan. The meeting took place during Lyngdoh’s official visit to Japan, accompanied by the Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, Ram Kumar.
The three nurses, namely Shisha Lapyntngen Lartang, Launda B Sangma, and Banniewkor Mukhim, secured their positions in Japan through an initiative spearheaded by the Meghalaya government in collaboration with Navis Corporation. The nurses expressed their gratitude, acknowledging the government’s efforts in facilitating this opportunity for them.
Banniewkor Mukhim, who has been working at the hospital since July, shared that the working environment is positive, although it requires hard work. “I would not deny we need to work very hard. But there is no mental stress,” she said.
Mukhim also had a message for other nurses from Meghalaya who are considering working abroad. She noted that while the salary package in Japan is significantly higher than in Shillong, the cost of living is also higher. “It is your individual choice to decide if you would like to get this exposure to work away from your home,” she advised.
The nurses expressed their delight at the Health Minister’s visit, appreciating the effort she made to meet them personally.
The organisation is scheduled to visit Shillong on September 17 as part of a job fair aimed at hiring 10 additional nurses from the state.
Additionally, the delegation, which included Ampareen Lyngdoh and Ram Kumar, visited the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, and met the Ambassador of India to Japan, further strengthening ties between the two countries in the healthcare sector.
