TURA, Sep 5: A resident of Moulakandi near Chibinang under Phulbari PS in West Garo Hills (WGH) has alleged police inaction after his son was assaulted by a group of 5 men leaving him hospitalised in Goalpara, Assam.
The incident allegedly took place at 7:40 pm on September 2 when the victim, Monirul Islam, was returning home from the market when 5 people allegedly came with weapons and brutally assaulted him leaving him bloodied.
Even the father of the victim and his younger son tried to intervene, they too were assaulted.
The accused in the case have been identified as Monirul Islam (not the victim), Abdul Matin, Zakir Prodhani, Nur Hussain and Abu Zahen.
As per the FIR, the victim, Monirul was the former VEC of Maulakandi and had money pending (Rs 7.6 lakh) for him. One of the accused, Nur Hussain, apparently withdrew the amount and gave him Rs 5.4 lakh. The bone of contention in the case came when Islam began to ask for the rest of the money due to him and did so several times.
The FIR was filed on September 2, despite which, the family stated no action had been taken against those named in the FIR.
“We have pleaded in our FIR for the persons to be booked and arrested as the victim has identified them. My son is now hospitalised with multiple injuries while those that did this to him are resting at home,” said the father, Tayab Ali, who also lodged the FIR.
When contacted on the matter, WGH police superintendent, JFK Marak stated that the FIR has been registered and an investigation has been launched. He added that action will be taken following the investigation.
