Shillong, Sep 7: Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School, Meghalaya, has stormed into the semi-finals of the 63rd Subroto Cup Junior Boys International Football Tournament, delivering an impressive 3-1 victory over Minerva Public School, Mohali.
A hat-trick by star player Banganson sealed the deal for the Meghalaya side in a dominant performance at the Tejas Football Ground.
Hemneichung’s solitary goal for Minerva was not enough to stop Myngken from securing their place in the final four.
In the upcoming semi-final clash, Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School will face Govt. Secondary School, Monigong, Arunachal Pradesh, who pulled off a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory against Lord Krishna SSS, Haryana.
Arunachal’s Byabang scored a sensational hat-trick, with Tage netting the decisive winner to cap off an eight-minute scoring spree that stunned their opponents after being 3-1 down.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Schools Football Association also made it to the semi-finals after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over RMSA High School, Mizoram at the KIIT Global School, Gurugram. Aman and Humaid’s second-half strikes secured the win for the Sri Lankan side, despite a late consolation goal from Mizoram’s Isak in injury time.
In the final quarterfinal, T.G English School, Bishnupur, Manipur edged out Amenity Public School, Uttarakhand 1-0, courtesy of Mianithoba’s late strike in the 62nd minute.
They will now face the Sri Lankan side in the second semi-final.
With Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School carrying Meghalaya’s hopes, all eyes will be on their semi-final showdown against a resilient Arunachal Pradesh team as the tournament heads into its decisive stages.
