Condemnation
The residents of Harijan Colony have alleged that the election of the new office-bearers of the Harijan Panchayat Committee is unconstitutional. “We strongly condemn the selected office-bearers by the general secretary, Gurjit Singh,” they said in a statement. It may mentioned that the HPC elected its new headman and office-bearers during its general body meeting on Sunday.

Ritual
The Rilbong Durga Puja Committee will organise ‘Tarpan’ at Chhath Puja Ghat, Umshyrpi River, on Wednesday. In this regard, all interested persons have been asked to visit the location at 6 am to perform the same.

Dry days
The West Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has declared dry days on Wednesday on account of Gandhi Jayanti, and on October 11 and 12 on account of Navaratri and Dussehra respectively. In view of this, all IMFL wholesalers, canteen, outstills, et al, in the district have been directed to remain shut on the aforesaid dates.

Mock drill
A mock drill on earthquake will be held at 11 am on October 4 at the additional and main Secretariat building. According to a statement, the mock drill will be participated by employees of both the Secretariat buildings as well as line departments, viz. SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, DM&HO, Police, MPRO, PWD, MeCEL, MUDA, Urban, PHE, et al. In this regard, the general public has been asked to allow ambulances, fire tenders, rescue parties, et al, to perform their duties.

Body found
The Office of Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police has informed that on September 24, a body of an unidentified male was recovered from roadside at Lower Balian Byrnihat. Subsequently all legal formalities were observed and the body was shifted to the morgue room of Nongpoh Civil Hospital for postmortem examination and identification process. It was informed that the body is 5.5-foot tall, has swarthy complexion and square face with mustache, and was found wearing a pair of long trousers (khakhi colour). Meanwhile, anyone having knowledge about the identity of the deceased has been requested to contact 856084514.
