TURA, Oct 15: The GSU, Nengkra Regional Unit in East Garo Hills on Tuesday sought the speedy construction of the PWD road as well as bridges from the area to Williamnagar pointing out that the pending works were greatly inconveniencing the people from the village as well as from Dobu, Chimagre and others.
In its complaint given to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma through the Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills, the union said that numerous potholes along the stretch of the said road was delaying travel time resulting in people missing out on urgent deadlines.
The union added that in addition to the deplorable condition of the road, the poor condition of wooden bridges as well as absence of retaining walls on various sections were posing risks to the safety of travelers.
According to the union, while 7 kilometres of the under construction road is nearly complete, the stretch from Dawa Chipit Bazar to Nengkra Awe to is yet to even begin.
Reiterating that the early completion of the whole stretch along with proper bridges and retaining walls would greatly ease the problems being faced by the people, the union urged the Chief Minister to look into the matter and ensure that the pace of the construction is sped up.
