Tripura seize control against Meghalaya on Day 2

Shillong, Oct 19: Tripura took command of proceedings on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Meghalaya at the MCA Ground in Polo here on Saturday.
Resuming play on 29/2 after just 7.2 overs were bowled yesterday, the visitors amassed 346/6 in 74.2 overs when bad light again halted the action on Saturday afternoon.Sridam Paul hit a masterful 146 for Tripura in an innings that contained 20 fours and two sixes. An attempted big hoick down the ground led to his dismissal, caught by Aryan Borah at mid-on off the bowling of Swarajeet Das (1/26 in 5 overs).Akash Kumar Choudhary (2/100 in 25.2) dismissed Tripura captain Mandeep Singh for 59 after the batter played a drive in the air and was caught by Bamanbha Shangpliang on the off side in front of square.Mandeep and Sridam had put on 132 for the fourth wicket, an invaluable contribution to their team’s cause.
The other wickets to fall today were taken by Dippu Sangma (1/76 in 19) and Aryan (1/29 in 4).
MB Mura Singh took a shine to Aryan’s left-arm spin and hit him for a couple of sixes. He remains unbeaten on 53 not out. His partner at the crease is S Sharath, who is not out on 54.
Tripura’s dominant performance on the second day has left Meghalaya with an uphill task as the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match heads into its third day. The visitors took control at the MCA Ground despite commendable efforts from Meghalaya’s bowlers.
