Shillong, Nov 1: Mawlai, Sutnga, Rangdajied United and Chipakkore were among the teams that registered victories on Friday in the Meghalaya State League 2024, organised by the Meghalaya Football Association with support of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.
It was the second win in a row for Mawlai and Sutnga, in Group E and B respectively, while both Rangdajied and Chipakkore, in Group D and A, moved to 4 points each after drawing their opening matches.
The other team to win today was Seven United in Group C. They beat Mawlum Tyrsad 1-0 in Tyrsad thanks to a goal from Kenny Syiemiong (17’). This was Mawlum Tyrsad’s second straight loss and puts their quarterfinal chances in serious doubt, while it was Seven United’s first outing and, therefore, first win.
It was an unprecedented day for Mawlai’s Khrawkupar Jana (27’P, 32’, 44’, 64, 69’, 79’) , who pumped in a remarkable six goals as his team defeated Pynursla United 11-0 in Shillong.
Khrawkupar’s first was a penalty but the others all came in open play, demonstrating a huge amount of talent the youngster possesses in his left boot. Having scored four goals in the first match, Khraw now has 10 goals to his name. The other scorers for Mawlai were Reformer Pale (9’), Arkibor Makhroh (11’, 70’), Wanboklang Lyngkhoi (25’) and Samlang Rympei (52’).
Chippakkore were involved in a goalless draw in their first fixture on Monday and it seemed to be going the same way today against Lumsohkhlur in Tura but a couple of goals in the last 20 minutes from Balthu M Marak (71’) and Bijay R Marak (89’) gave the home team a 2-0 victory.
In Mawkyrwat, Sutnga had absolutely no problems against Mawten, romping to a 4-0 win. Sutnga stormed out of the dugout and struck all four goals in the first half itself, through Raplangki Lyngdoh (5’, 45’+2), Deligent Pdang (7’) and Skhemborlang Rupai (41’).
The other match of the day saw Rangdajied pick up 3 points in Khliehriat with a 2-0 result in their favour against Mulait United. Pasborlang Khonglikong (29’) scored first in what was the maiden MSL 2024 goal in Khliehriat after the previous two fixtures both ended 0-0. His team mate Owanijuh Pajuh (90’+4) doubled the lead in stoppage time to give the defending champions some real momentum going forward.
With thrilling performances across the board, Day 2 of the Meghalaya State League 2024 saw teams making decisive strides toward the knockout stages. Mawlai’s Khrawkupar Jana stole the spotlight with a phenomenal six-goal haul, underscoring his rising star status and pushing his side to a staggering 11-0 victory over Pynursla United. Sutnga, Rangdajied United, and Chipakkore also registered commanding wins, solidifying their positions in their respective groups. As the competition heats up, every team now feels the pressure to secure points.
