SHILLONG/NONGPOH, Nov 14: Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar on Thursday said it is everyone’s collective responsibility to provide the children opportunities and resources to thrive.
Addressing a programme at Raj Bhavan to celebrate Children’s Day and to mark the foundation day of the states of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand, the Governor praised the potential and vitality of India’s youths, underscoring the critical role of education, creativity, and a supportive environment in fostering children’s growth and development.
He called for a collective effort to nurture their talents and dreams, highlighting that an investment in children today paves the way for a brighter future for the nation.
“Children are the pillars of our tomorrow, and it is our collective responsibility to provide them with the opportunities and resources to thrive,” he said.
During the programme, tributes were also paid to independent India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
In addition to celebrating Children’s Day, the Governor also extended his regards to the people of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand on their foundation days, honouring the rich cultural heritage, history and progress these states have achieved since their formation.
The programme was attended by dignitaries, officials and a large number of schoolchildren, who actively participated in cultural performances and other engaging activities that showcased their talents.
In Shillong, SPARK-Bringing Light to Lives, too, joined the celebrations by organising a programme for around 350 children from Mawlynrei village, Mawlong village, Bara Bazaar slum, Pongkung village and Rangmen village.
“The day was filled with games, recreational activities, and cultural performances that allowed the children to express themselves, experience fun, and forget, even for a moment, the struggles they face in their everyday lives. The highlight of the day was the delicious food shared by all, and the heartfelt gifts that were distributed, ensuring each child left with a smile and a sense of happiness,” a statement in this regard said.
