14 villages under Jirang receive work orders worth Rs 17.19 lakh

Funds aimed at construction of rural edn centres

NONGPOH, Nov 15: In a significant step towards improving rural education infrastructure, Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun and Project Director of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Ri-Bhoi, Raja Brahma, distributed work orders worth Rs 17.19 lakh each to 14 villages under Jirang constituency in western Ri-Bhoi.
The event, which was held on Friday at the Jirang C&RD Block office, marked the launch of a transformative initiative aimed at constructing Children Adolescents and Digital Infrastructure Centres.
These centres are designed to provide rural children with specialised education and training, equipping them with skills to match their urban peers and meet modern-day demands.
The initial sanctioned amount of Rs 17,19,958 is allocated for building construction, with an additional Rs 4 lakh to be disbursed later for equipment and resources.
Addressing the event, Sohtun and Brahma urged recipients to execute the projects diligently, adhering to guidelines to ensure maximum benefit for the children.
They highlighted the initiative as a bridge to close the gap in education and infrastructure between rural and urban areas.
They also expressed pride in announcing that Jirang constituency is among the first to benefit from this joint scheme funded by the central and state governments, with active collaboration from the MLA and the Office of the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner.
Others who were part of the event included Jirang Block Development Office Dr. P Hajong, Chairman of Jirang C&RD Block, Lester Nongphlang, several village leaders, et al.
