Govt consults UN’s WFP to bolster PDS prog in state

SHILLONG, Nov 18: The state government, in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (UN-WFP), held a meeting here on Monday to strengthen the Public Distribution System (PDS) and outline future efforts to enhance food security in the state.
The event was attended by Coming One Ymbon, Minister in charge of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, and Elisabeth Faure, Country Director of the UN-WFP.
Discussions during the meeting stressed on addressing current challenges within the PDS and identifying key areas for improvement. Participants explored innovative technologies and strategies to enhance transparency and accountability in Meghalaya’s PDS supply chain.
The meeting also emphasised the development of a collaborative roadmap aligned with the state’s objectives for food security. Additionally, participants highlighted the importance of sharing best practices from other states and leveraging global insights from WFP’s successful models implemented across the country.
