SHILLONG, Nov 21: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Thursday feigned ignorance about the term “VIP culture” and said he only knows about ministers, MLAs, IAS and MCS officers but does not know any VIP.
“What is VIP culture? Who is a VIP? I don’t know. A VIP could be your MLA, your officers…it is the people and their leaders of the state. It does not mean they are VIPs,” Dhar said while responding to the growing outrage against the VIP culture.
The growing discontent has sparked widespread calls for change. People in Meghalaya and beyond have started a social media campaign against the VIP culture following the death of a biker during the Cherry Blossom Festival on November 15.
