JAWA successfully hosts Open Arm Wrestling C’ship

Jowai, Nov 21: The Jaintia Arm Wrestling Association (JAWA) successfully organized the Open Arm Wrestling Championship 2024 on Wednesday at the District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai.
The event served as a platform to identify top arm wrestlers from the Jaintia Hills region who will represent the area in the 6th Meghalaya Games, slated for next year in Jaintia Hills.
The championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from 75 athletes, both men and women, hailing from Ri-Lum Jaintia. The event was inaugurated with a brief meeting attended by distinguished guests, including Sunday Manner, Officer In-Charge of Jowai Police Station, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Also present were JAWA President Yoosar Kynjing, Vice President Pretty Lyngdoh, and other association members.
After a series of gripping contests, the winners secured their spots in the Meghalaya Games 2025.
In the men’s category, the winners were Damewanhi Kharjana (55kg and above), Tenny Ferson Langstang (60kg and below), Heipormi Talang (55kg and below), Ranchar D. Shullai (75kg and above), and Defender Samati (75kg and below). For the women, the champions were Monika Syntem (55kg and above), Ewandaka Lytep (57kg and below), Heimonmi Rymbai (55kg and below), and Ritreka Passah (70kg and above).
Prizes were presented by the Chief Guest, Sunday Manner, alongside other dignitaries.In his address, Manner expressed his appreciation for the growing participation of women in the sport and lauded JAWA’s efforts to nurture local talent.
