SHILLONG, Nov 26: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on Tuesday asked the KHADC to close down all the shops which are operating illegally at Them Iew Mawlong.
In a letter addressed to KHADC Executive Member in-charge Trade, KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said several new shops have sprung up after the road from Mawlonghat up to Bimola Junction was reopened on November 4.
Pointing out that majority of the shops in the area are owned by non-Khasis, Passah suspected that the shop owners might not have obtained the trading licence which is in violation of the Trading by Non-Tribal Regulation of 1954.
“We demand that all the shops which have not obtained valid trading licences from the council should be shut,” Passah added.
