Curbs on heavy vehicles during Me’Gong Festival

TURA, Nov 28: In view of the 4th edition of Me’Gong Festival, to be held at Jengjal, Baljek in West Garo Hills, the District Magistrate has prohibited the movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) with more than two axles, including trucks, lorries, trailers, and similar vehicles, from Snalgre to Tura Town on NH-51 from 6 am on November 29 to 6 am on December 1.
The order, issued under Section 163 BNSS, aims to regulate vehicle movement, ensuring public safety and security, and facilitating smooth traffic flow during the festival. Additionally, it suspends construction activities involving heavy machinery, public works, and utility works by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited and PWD within the specified area and time period.
Emergency services, such as ambulances, fire services, and police, are exempt from this order.
