MAWKYRWAT, Dec 5: The Medical Superintendent of Mawkyrwat Civil Hospital, Dr. Marinsha Lyngdoh, has confirmed that the viral video showing doctors removing larvae from the face of a five-year-old girl was filmed at their hospital in South West Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya.
Speaking to media persons, Dr. Lyngdoh stated that the child was admitted to the hospital on November 2, after being brought in with a severe wound on the right side of her face. The wound had persisted for three months and worsened despite attempts at treatment by her parents. Upon examination, the attending doctor decided to proceed with immediate treatment, during which multiple larvae were removed from her face. The next day, the child was referred to Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong for advanced care.
Dr. Lyngdoh explained that the video was recorded by the doctors as part of treatment documentation and for educational purposes.
“Therefore on this mistake by my team, which is a violation of the Right to Privacy of the patient, I have taken it very seriously and I have also addressed the staff that this kind of thing should not happen in the future,” Dr. Lyngdoh said, apologising to the family of the child.
She also urged residents of the district to seek immediate professional medical attention for any wounds to prevent complications.
It may be mentioned that the young girl, identified as the daughter of Royalpantila Khyllem Kharai and Overjoy Jyrwa from Mawbidong village, South West Khasi Hills District, is currently receiving treatment at Ganesh Das Hospital in Shillong.
