SHILLONG, Dec 5: The ongoing undergraduate (UG) examinations under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) and non-FYUP courses in all colleges affiliated to North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) will continue as per the schedule announced by the university. The UG examinations under FYUP and Non-FYUP courses, which started on November 16, will conclude on December 20.
The NEHU Academic Council, which met on Wednesday, resolved to defer the odd semester exams of a few UG courses and all PG courses to March 2025 after re-opening on February 3, 2025, to compensate for the classes lost due to the hunger strike by the students during November 2024. This decision will impact all post-graduate examinations of the university and the affiliated colleges. This will also impact some UG examinations of courses, such as BA LLB programme, concurrently offered at the university.
Some 4,000 students pursuing UG, PG and professional courses in NEHU will be affected due to the postponement of the examinations which are normally held in December. On Wednesday, NEHU Vice Chancellor in-charge Nirmalendu Saha had stated that the examinations will conclude by mid-March. He said the classes for the next semester will resume immediately after the end of the examinations.
Prof Saha had also said that normal classes will continue till December 17 before the winter break.
Stating that the university normally reopens on February 18 after the winter vacation, he said the Academic Council decided to reopen the university on February 3 to make up for the losses since classes could not be held for over a month due to the agitations.
Normal classes will continue till February 28 before the university conducts the semester examinations.
Earlier, it was inadvertently reported that the Academic Council of the university decided to defer all examinations.
