Financial literacy prog in SWKH draws many participants

MAWKYRWAT, Dec 7: The district administration of South West Khasi Hills, in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society and various district departments and banks, hosted the District Level Financial Literacy Campaign Cum Exhibition 2024 at Mawkyrwat Presbyterian Church Ground, drawing hundreds of participants, primarily members of Self Help Groups (SHGs).
The campaign aimed to educate the public about social security schemes, including PMJJBY, PMSBY, APY, and MHIS, as well as financial assistance programmes and loan options from banks. Attendees also gained insight into various departmental schemes.
A notable feature of the event was the availability of free medical check-ups. Additionally, stalls showcased products from local farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs, promoting the district’s rich talent.
Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, B Mawlong, was the chief guest, accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner, LT Tariang, District Mission Manager of MSRLS, Eson A Khongrymmai, besdies government officials, bankers, and SHG members.
In his address, Deputy Commissioner Mawlong emphasised the importance of understanding loan benefits. He encouraged SHG members to explore the various stalls, leveraging the program for their advantage.
