M’laya-Assam border villages get new school buildings

NONGPOH, Dec 9: Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun inaugurated two new school buildings on Friday in Maikhuli and Pillangkata villages, located along the Meghalaya-Assam border.
The newly constructed buildings are designated for lower primary students.
Whilst the school building in Pillangkata was completed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh, the one in Maikhuli was built at an expense of Rs 37 lakh.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Sohtun commended the state government, particularly the Education Department, for positively responding to his efforts to secure dedicated infrastructure for the border villages.
He highlighted that the state government’s approval and funding for these projects mark a significant step forward for the local community, especially for those residing near the Meghalaya-Assam border.
The MLA also urged the concerned authorities and the community to ensure the proper upkeep of the buildings, while highlighting their importance in serving the students and the villages for many years to come.
Others who were part of the programme include officials from the Education department, local leaders and the village residents.
