Jowai, Dec 14: Nangbah Mulang SC emerged as champions of the 2024 Super Division Football Tournament, popularly known as the ‘U Kiang Nangbah Memorial Trophy,’ with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Demthring SC in the final.
Organized by the West Jaintia District Sports Association (WJDSA), the prestigious tournament concluded on Thursday at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium in Jowai.
The match saw an early breakthrough for Nangbah Mulang SC, courtesy of Timmy Ryngkhlem, who scored the decisive goal in the 12th minute. Despite relentless efforts from Demthring SC to equalize in the second half, they were unable to penetrate the resilient defense of Nangbah Mulang. The standout performance by the winning team’s goalkeeper ensured that the solitary goal remained enough to secure the title.
Nangbah Mulang SC was awarded a cash prize of ₹1 lakh along with the championship trophy, while runners-up Demthring SC received ₹50,000 and a trophy.
Several players were recognized for their exceptional performances during the tournament, with Niponghi Summer of Nangbah Mulang SC awarded the Top Scorer, Ialamlang Biam of Ladthadlaboh SC named the Best Goalkeeper, Wadshwa Lato of Demthring SC honored as the Player of the Tournament, and Timmy Ryngkhlem of Nangbah Mulang SC earning the Man of the Match title in the final.
The WJDSA also took the opportunity to honor two local referees for their achievements on the national stage.
