SHILLONG, Dec 19: Former Home Minister and UDP legislator from Amlarem, Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday expressed concern over the ongoing situation in Bangladesh and cautioned that the Northeast, particularly Meghalaya, will be severely affected if the country falls in the hands of the radical groups.
“If the situation in Bangladesh is further disturbed it will also disturb the Northeast,” he said.
“What happened in Bangladesh in the last three four months is their internal matter but from our side we would love to see a stable government in Bangladesh—a government which respects the rights of the religious minorities,” he said.
Pointing out that as of now it is just a caretaker government in Bangladesh with a lot of actors involved, he said, “Let’s hope better sense prevails and a new government comes to power which respects the rights of the minorities.”
Bangladesh has confirmed 88 cases of communal violence targeting minorities since the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August.
