One killed in autorickshaw accident in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH, Dec 22: In a tragic accident this morning, one person lost his life, while three others, including the driver, sustained injuries when the autorickshaw they were traveling in overturned on National Highway 6 at Umsawnongkharai in Ri-Bhoi.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 8:30 am on Sunday when an autorickshaw, bearing registration number ML10B 6460, was traveling towards Quinine village. The driver, allegedly speeding, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn at a sharp curve along the highway.
The deceased has been identified as Stom Siangshai, a 37-year-old resident of Pahamriniai village. His body has been sent to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination and necessary legal formalities. Meanwhile, the driver and two other injured passengers were rushed to Umsning CHC for medical treatment.
Following the incident, the Nongpoh Police have taken the autorickshaw into custody and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident in compliance with legal procedures.
