SHILLONG, Dec 24: A significant number of villages in rural Meghalaya remain without electricity, with the government identifying over 50,500 unelectrified households for electrification.
“From the unelectrified villages, we have mapped around 50,500 households. Our target is to provide them with electricity connections as soon as possible,” said Power Minister AT Mondal.
He added, “After the completion of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), I believe more such issues will be addressed. I am hopeful we will be able to connect all unelectrified households soon.”
Acknowledging various challenges, including transmission and generation issues, Mondal remarked, “We are resolving these problems one by one.”
Reflecting on the efforts to minimise load-shedding, he said, “This year, we have tried to ensure that our consumers are not subjected to load shedding, and to some extent, we have managed to achieve this.”
Highlighting the importance of improving the distribution network, Mondal stated, “Efforts are ongoing, and the Chief Minister has also expressed his support to help establish more substations.”
“I am optimistic that we will receive the necessary sanctions soon to carry out these reforms,” he added.
