New Delhi, Jan 3: Delhi police arrested four more persons, including a couple, as part of a nexus by Indian and Bangladeshi nationals who facilitated the illegal settlement of Bangladeshi immigrants in India.
The police said the couple – Hosen and his wife – had entered through the porous Meghalaya border with the help of two Indians.
DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan said a police investigation led to Aminur Islam, a resident of Goalpara in Assam. He was involved in facilitating the transit of “illegal immigrants” from the Meghalaya border to railway stations in Assam.
Islam’s arrest led the police to Ashish Mehra, a native of Uchana in Haryana’s Jind tehsil, who created Aadhaar cards for the Bangladeshi couple using forged documents.
“We are focusing on investigating the routes facilitating illegal immigration and the methods used to create fake Indian documents,” the DCP said.
The police busted a large syndicate of Bangladeshis illegally settling in Delhi. The police arrested many alleged Bangladeshis and are interrogating others.
These syndicates used to infiltrate through the “donkey route” which is a term for illegal immigration, where immigrants take long walks to enter countries.
According to the police, the first module of this syndicate was working from Durgapur in Bangladesh to Baghmara in India. Commanded by one Anish Shaikh, the module helped Bangladeshis infiltrate into India, particularly Baghmara in Meghalaya, through the donkey route.
The task of modules two and three were to take the infiltrators to Assam’s Krishnai from Baghmara, about 150 km away, by minibus. From Krishnai, the infiltrators would be taken to Kolkata by train or bus. Islam headed these two modules.
After this, the work of the fourth module started. It was handled by Shaikh’s wife Sapna, who used to bring the infiltrators to Delhi by train from Kolkata. After that, the work of Sheikh started in Delhi. He used to make illegal documents of the infiltrators.
Mehra and his accomplice Manmohan would make fake Aadhaar cards and documents for these Bangladeshis. Websites named jantaprints.site and Bharat Seva were used to create fake documents. The police recovered documents such as PAN card, bank accounts from their possession.
So far, around 30 people have been deported and more than 1,500 identified by the police since the drive began.
“We have decided to revamp the Bangladeshi Cell in all police stations of the Southern Range,” said Sanjay Kumar Jain, Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range).
