Four Maoists, cop killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh
New Delhi, Jan 5: At least four Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, an official said on Sunday, adding that a jawan also died in action. A head constable of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Sannu Karam, died in the encounter, which broke out on Saturday evening in a forest in south Abujhmaad. The encounter began when a joint team of security personnel was on an anti-Maoist operation, said an official. After the firing stopped, the bodies of four Maoists were found. The security forces recovered automatic weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and a self-loading rifle from the spot. A search operation is underway in the area, the officials added. (IANS)

Four killed as vehicle falls into gorge in J&K
Jammu, Jan 5: At least four people died on Sunday when a vehicle carrying them plunged into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. Officials said a vehicle went out of the driver’s control in the Massu Paddar area of Kishtwar district. “The vehicle dropped into a deep gorge after the driver lost control of the wheel. Four people died in this accident. A rescue operation was immediately launched. Two people are reported to be missing after this accident. They are being traced,” officials said. Sunday’s accident happened a day after four soldiers were killed in a road accident in the Saderkoot Payeen area of Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The driver had lost control of the Army vehicle after which the vehicle plunged into a gorge. Doctors at a nearby hospital had first declared two soldiers as brought dead while two others succumbed to critical injuries later. One injured soldier is being treated in the hospital. (IANS)

13 B’deshis held for illegally stay in Mumbai
Mumbai, Jan 5: In a major operation against illegal migrants, Mumbai Police arrested 13 Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the Nalasopara area of Maharashtra, officials said. The arrests were made during a special operation in the Ghatkopar suburb as part of a broader crackdown on unauthorised migrants, Mumbai police said on Saturday. According to police officials, the detained individuals were found to have entered and stayed in India without proper documentation. The arrested nationals have been presented before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office for deportation. Police continue to intensify efforts to identify and take action against illegal migrants in the district. (IANS)

Fake govt officer held from Goa resort
Panaji, Jan 5: Police arrested a Haryana resident for allegedly posing as a senior Goa government officer and availing of facilities of Rs 2 lakh at a resort including food and drinks, an official said on Sunday. The incident occurred at a resort located in Mandrem area. The accused Mirnank Singh told the resort management that he was a high-ranking officer with the Goa government and asked them to provide him with a luxurious room, an official said. (PTI)
