SHILLONG, Jan 19: As many as 95 rehabilitation professionals from across the Northeast were trained in the latest approaches to provide holistic and effective care for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) during a two-day zonal-level Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) programme.
The event, organised by the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Shillong, under the administrative control of Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR), Cuttack, Odisha, was held on Friday and Saturday at the DERT Annex, Malki.
Organised on the theme ‘An Integrative Approach – New Trends in Disability Rehabilitation’, the training aimed to equip professionals with modern tools, strategies and practices for holistic disability rehabilitation.
The sessions emphasised an integrative approach, focusing on new trends, innovative interventions, and the role of empathy in caregiving.
Inaugurating the programme, Director of Social Welfare and Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Camelia Doreen Lyngwa, highlighted the importance of inclusive rehabilitation services. She stressed the need to empower professionals to effectively address the diverse needs of PwDs.
Other dignitaries who addressed the gathering included Assistant Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, R. Passah, and Architect from the office of the Chief Engineer, CPWD Shillong, Dianghunlang Chyne.
Meanwhile, participants lauded the initiative, noting its impact on enhancing their skills and knowledge.
The event concluded with a call for more such training programmes to meet the evolving challenges in disability rehabilitation.
