AFC, AIFF officials arrive in city to inspect JN Stadium

SHILLONG, Jan 19: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) match commissioner, Mindu Dorjee along with AIFF club licensing and competitions senior manager, Abhishek Yadav arrived in Shillong on Sunday.
The official of the AFC and AIFF will be inspecting the pitch and facilities JN stadium on Monday.
It may be mention that Shillong is likely to host two international matches of the Indian football team scheduled to be held in March 2025.
The first match is an international friendly to be played between India and Maldives either on March 19th or 20th.
The second match, an AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier, is scheduled on March 25 between hosts India and Bangladesh.
When contacted, MFA president, Hamletson Dohling informed that he had a brief discussion with the two officials before the inspection tomorrow.
“It was a pleasant surprise to know that the AFC match commissioner did his college education here in Shillong and has returned after 32 years to the city,” Dohling said.
Earlier, Dohling had informed the AIFF made this offer to the MFA to host matches of the Indian men football team after seeing the craze for the game among the people.
Dohling also expressed his gratitude to the AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey for offering the MFA a chance to host two matches involving the Blue Tigers. India are clubed with Bangladesh, Singapore and Hong Kong in Group C.
