Four killed as fire breaks out in house
Ghaziabad, Jan 19: Four people, including three members of a family, were charred to death in sleep after a fire broke out in a house here due to a short circuit early Sunday, officials said. The fire broke out in a multi-storey building in the Kanchan Park area under the Loni police station jurisdiction. According to the fire department, information about the incident was received at 7.06 am and three fire engines were pressed into service. (PTI)
Woman tourist, instructor killed in paragliding accident
Panaji, Jan 19: A 27-year-old woman tourist and her instructor were killed after they crashed into a ravine while they were paragliding in North Goa, police said on Sunday. The accident occurred at Keri village on Saturday evening, an official said. Shivani Dable, a resident of Pune, and her instructor, Sumal Nepali (26), a Nepalese national, crashed to death at Keri Plateau around 5 pm, he said. The official said Dable had opted to paraglide with an adventure sports company operating illegally. (PTI)
Nephews beat elderly man to death
Kabir Nagar, Jan 19: An elderly man was allegedly bludgeoned to death by his nephews, who attacked him with bricks here on Sunday morning, police said. Officials said that the two accused have been arrested. The incident took place in Supa village, Bakhira area when the accused, Baliram and Shakti, killed Ram Sumer Gautam (65) by hitting him on the head using bricks, a police officer said. (PTI)
Father-son duo killed in bear attack
Kanker, Jan 19: A man and his son were killed, and two others sustained injuries when a sloth bear attacked them in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, officials said on Sunday. The incident occurred on Saturday on a hill near Dongarkatta village under the Korar forest range, a forest official said. He said the bear first attacked Suklal Darro (45) and Ajju Kureti (22) when they had gone to collect wood in the forest on Jailnkasa Hill. While Darro died on the spot, Kureti sustained serious injuries, he said. (PTI)
Leopard mauls man to death
Somnath, Jan 19: A 44-year-old man was killed and another sustained serious injuries when a leopard attacked them in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district, a forest official said on Sunday. The men were sleeping outside their houses near a farm when a big cat attacked them late on Saturday night in Kodiya village in Gir Gadhada taluka, the official said. One person died on the spot, while the other man was rushed to a hospital. (PTI)
