Teenage girl killed in Pak for making TikTok videos
Karachi, Jan 29: A 15-year-old girl born and raised in the US has been killed by her father and uncle in the Balochistan province of Pakistan for making TikTok videos, police said on Wednesday. The police have arrested both the accused who have confessed to the “honour killing” after the girl and her family arrived in Quetta on January 15. “The father said he had told his daughter to stop making videos on TikTok but she refused to listen. So he and his brother-in-law decided to kill her while they were visiting their home town Quetta,” senior police official Abad Baloch said. The official said the accused initially claimed the girl was hit by stray bullets during an aerial firing outside their home and rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead. (PTI)
Court jails man for killing suspect in ’85 Air India bombing
Ottawa, Jan 29: A Canadian court has sentenced a 24-year-old man to life after he pleaded guilty to the killing of a Sikh businessman, a suspect in the 1985 Air India bombing who was later acquitted, according to local media reports. A British Columbia Supreme Court judge on Tuesday sentenced Tanner Fox to life with no parole for 20 years for killing Sikh businessman Ripudaman Singh Malik, the CBC news reported. On July 15, 2022, Malik was shot dead while he was sitting in his car in Surrey, British Columbia. Malik and co-accused Ajaib Singh Bagri were acquitted of mass murder and conspiracy charges in 2005 related to the Air India bombing. Two weeks after Malik’s murder, Canadian police arrested Fox, a resident of Abbotsford, British Columbia, a city about 75 kilometres east of Vancouver, and accomplice Jose Lopez, from the Vancouver suburb of New Westminster. Citing prosecutors, the Global News on Tuesday reported that the two men were hired and paid to kill Malik, but they have not revealed who they believe hired them. (PTI)
Indian fishermen injured in accidental firing: SL Navy chief
Colombo, Jan 29: Two Indian fishermen who sustained serious injuries during the apprehension of 13 Indian fishermen in the proximity of Delft Island were injured by accidental firing during their arrest by the Sri Lankan Navy, the island’s top naval official said on Wednesday. Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, said that according to initial investigations, the two Indian fishermen were injured due to the accidental discharge of a firearm by a Navy personnel. Plane catches fire at airport, all 176 on board evacuated
Seoul, Jan 29: A passenger plane caught fire before takeoff at an airport in South Korea late Tuesday, but all 176 people on board were safely evacuated, authorities said. The Airbus plane operated by South Korean airline Air Busan was preparing to leave for Hong Kong when its rear parts caught fire at Gimhae International Airport in the southeast, the Transport Ministry said.
