Homeless man caught stealing
On February 22, workers of road construction site apprehended a homeless person, identified as Jerry Pakyntein (38), reportedly while attempting to commit theft at Mahavir Park, Jhalupara, Shillong.
Stranger takes off with man’s bike
Senfru M Sangma lodged a complaint that on February 21, an unidentified person approached him and requested for a ride to Williamnagar Main Bazar in East Garo Hills. On reaching near Fernando Memorial Secondary School, the person requested for his motorcycle on the pretext of picking up his mother. However, the person failed to return the motorcycle back.
EVM vandalism
Police Sector Officer lodged a complaint that on February 21, around 11.30 am, he received two phone calls about an incident which occurred at the polling stations at Wapungskur-A and Wapungskur-B in East Jaintia Hills, wherein miscreants had vandalised government properties including EVMs. Also, a similar report was received over the phone by the Police Zonal Officer on the same day between 4 pm and 4.30 pm that miscreants had vandalised government properties and EVMs at Bataw-A and Bataw-B in East Jaintia Hills.
Photographer fails to deliver files
Rakesh Das lodged a complaint that he paid Rs 30,000 to one Rahimul Khan, proprietor of RK Cine Production for photography and video shoot during a dance competition at Tura Parade Ground in West Garo Hills. However, till date the complaint did not receive any photographs or videos.
Three held with drugs
On February 21, police received information that residents of Tillapara village in West Garo Hills apprehended two persons — Momin Pradhani (21) and Monirul Islam (22) — along with three vials of suspected drugs.
B’deshi nationals held
On February 20, police conducted checking at a location under Jengjal PS in West Garo Hills, and apprehended six illegal Bangladeshi nationals — identified as Rahul Amin (33), Din Islam (38), Dilwar Hussain (27), Sarmin Hussain (35), Sultan Mahmud (37) and Robel Kobiras (33) along with an Indian tout, Rakibul Islam (20), and his accomplice both from Baburbhita Part-II village, Goalpara, Assam. Police also recovered eleven mobile phones, Bangladeshi Taka worth Rs 5,955 and a vehicle from their possession. Later, another Indian tout was arrested from a place under Gasuapara PS in South Garo Hills.
On Feb 21, Dalu Police apprehended two illegal Bangladeshi nationals identified as Islam Miah (42) and Akash (24) from Choipani Bazar in West Garo Hills and also recovered Bangladeshi currency worth Rs 7,060, three mobile phones, two additional Bangladeshi SIM cards, one Bangladeshi ATM card, an Aadhaar card, a Bangladeshi identity-card, a photocopy of passport, etc., from their possession. During inquiry, it was learnt that three Indian nationals from South Garo Hills facilitated their entry in a car for Rs 11,000 (Indian currency) and 10,000 Bangladeshi Taka.
Theft
Gopal Rishi lodged a complaint that a resident of Rishipara, Tura, in West Garo Hills along with his accomplices stole eight water pumps from Rishipara.
