Shillong/Tura/Nongpoh/Jowai, March 17: The State Level Mock Exercise 2025 on earthquake and related scenarios will be conducted in all the districts and sub-divisions simultaneously on March 20, a statement informed on Monday.
In the capital, the mock exercise will be participated by line departments from SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, Police, DM&HO, MPRO, PWD, DSEO, Soil and Water Conservation, MUDA, Water Resources, Indian Red Cross Society and volunteers from Aapda Mitra, NCC, NSS and NYK. Civil Hospital, Ganesh Das MCH Hospital, Bethany Hospital, Nazareth Hospital, Woodland Hospital, Dr. H. Gordon Hospital, Super Care Hospital and NEIGRIHMS.
The operation sites for the mock exercise will be at Buddha Vidya Niketan Secondary School, Polo, Office of the Soil and Water Conservation, Lawmali, Polo Hills residential area, Market Complex, Polo, Longkmie Gas Agency, Nongmensong, Star Service Station, Mawpat Wahheh, Pynthorumkhrah approach Bridge near B K Bajoria School, Wahingdoh locality and Police Quarter Reserve.
In view of the mock exercise, the public is requested to cooperate with the arrangements made by the district administration and allow ambulances, fire tenders, and rescuers to perform their duties.
In WGH, a tabletop exercise will be held on March 18 before the state-level mock exercise. The operation sites have been identified at the District Council office building, Civil Hospital, Super Market, St. Xavier’s Secondary School and Deran Gittim in Tura. The drill will start with a distress siren at 9:30 a.m.
In Ri Bhoi, the mock exercise will be conducted at Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh from 9:30 am onwards and the venues identified as affected areas are, Christian Higher Secondary School, Pahamsyiem, PHED Office, Pahamsyiem village, Nongpoh town market, petrol pump at Pahamrioh and NH-Shangbangla. The Exercise will be taken part by all departments, Armed forces, Police, Civil Defence & Home Guard personnel, hospitals etc.
In West Jaintia Hills, the mock drill exercise will take place in Jowai, Amlarem Civil Sub Division, Thadlaskein and Laskein C&RD Blocks. The exercise will commence with a siren at 9 a.m. to signal the start of the drill.
All the district administrations have requested the general public not to panic on hearing the siren during the process of evacuation, search and rescue procedures in the mock drill but to observe and learn from the exercise that would show them how to respond and be prepared to a real-life emergency such as earthquake and other natural calamities.
