SHILLONG, March 21: On the occasion of International Forest Day 2025, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, in collaboration with the Forests and Environment department, hosted a plantation drive centered around the theme of “Forest and Food,” and emphasising the urgent need for sustainable practices to ensure a harmonious balance between development and environmental preservation.
In his address, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force (HoFF), Meghalaya, RS Gill, who served as the chief guest, highlighted the pivotal role of forests in maintaining ecological balance and ensuring food security.
He emphasised the importance of preserving traditional knowledge, promoting extensive tree plantation drives, and adopting eco-friendly practices as essential steps towards building a greener and more sustainable future.
Director of IIM Shillong, Prof DP Goyal, expressed profound appreciation for the Forests department’s initiative and pledged the institute’s commitment to strengthening future’s collaborative endeavours.
The event also saw in attendance distinguished guests including Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Social Forestry & Environment), D Sathiyan, and Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forestry Division, Heisa Lato.
