New Delhi, April 11: South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been handed a one-year suspension from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after pulling out of the tournament despite being selected in the draft.
Bosch, who was picked as a ‘diamond’ category player by Peshawar Zalmi, later joined the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as an injury replacement. With this year’s PSL clashing directly with the IPL, the 29-year-old opted for the latter, prompting the PCB to issue a legal notice for alleged breach of contract.
The PCB’s disciplinary action follows what it termed a violation of commitment to the league, as Bosch withdrew after being officially drafted. The PSL, originally held between February and March, was rescheduled to April-May due to Pakistan’s congested international calendar, resulting in an overlap with the IPL’s 18th edition.
In a statement quoted by ESPNcricinfo, Bosch expressed remorse for his decision and accepted the penalty imposed. He apologised to the PCB, Peshawar Zalmi supporters, and the broader cricket community, acknowledging the impact of his actions.
“I deeply regret my decision to withdraw from the PSL and offer my sincere apologies to the people of Pakistan, the fans of Peshawar Zalmi, and the wider cricket community,” Bosch said.
“To the loyal fans of Peshawar Zalmi, I am truly sorry for letting you down. I take full responsibility and accept the consequences, including the fine and the one-year ban. This has been a hard lesson, but I’m committed to learning from it and hope to return to the PSL in the future with renewed dedication and the trust of the fans.”
The PCB’s decision comes just as the 10th edition of the PSL gets underway, with defending champions Islamabad United set to face Lahore Qalandars in the tournament opener at Rawalpindi on April 11.
Bosch’s suspension serves as a reminder of the growing scheduling conflicts between major T20 leagues and the challenges players face in balancing commitments. (ANI)
