SHILLONG, April 25: The state government is working in close coordination with central agencies to ensure that the 443 km long Meghalaya-Bangladesh border is fully secured.
“We have already held a review meeting with the BSF and other central government agencies. We are on the same page. We will ensure that the international boundary is fully secured to meet all these challenges in case there is any kind of infiltration taking place,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Friday.
“We are fully in operation as far as the international border is concerned,” said Tynsong who is also the Home Minister.
He said the government is working together with village authorities, Village Defence Party, BSF, police and other central agencies to thwart any attempt of infiltration.
“I have read in the newspaper time and again about infiltrators being stopped or apprehended and put behind bars,” he said, adding, “Foreigner’s Act is in place.”
In recent times, there has been a spurt in attempts by Bangladeshis to illegally cross over into Meghalaya.
