SHILLONG, April 30: Seiñ Raij Niamtre Shillong, a congregation of the indigenous faith, is set to celebrate its 62nd Lyngkhooh Snem (Foundation Day) on May 3 and 4.
Seiñ Raij Niamtre Shillong is a socio-religious congregation of the Jaintia community settled in Shillong — a tribe that believes itself to be descended from U Niaw Wasa, and continues to follow the traditional religion known as Niamtre.
Niamtre is a faith rooted in the belief that God, U Tre Kirot, is the supreme creator. It is guided by three cardinal principles — ‘kamai yei hok’ (honest livelihood), ‘tipbru tipblai’ (fulfilling duties to fellow humans to reach God), and ‘tipkur tipkha’ (showing respect to both maternal and paternal clans).
Since its inception in 1963, Seiñ Raij Niamtre Shillong has been committed to fostering socio-religious and cultural awakening among the Jaintia community.
This year’s foundation day celebration will be graced by Wanroy Shallam, Chief Engineer, as the chief guest.
On May 4, a Dorbar Lyngkhooh Snem and the Shad Sukra Festival will be held from 12:30 PM, followed by Chad Mih Yaw, a traditional procession starting from Soso Tham Auditorium, moving via MG Road to Police Bazar, and returning to the auditorium premises.
Wailadmiki Shylla, Chairman of MUDA, and Ricky Shullai, MDC, will serve as chief guests for the respective events.
