Nine killed after tourist boats capsize in China
Beijing, May 5: Nine people died, one was missing, and 70 were injured after four tourist boats capsized due to sudden gales on a river in Qianxi, southwest China’s Guizhou province, according to state media. A total of 84 people fell into the water following the accident on Sunday afternoon, and the search for the last missing person continues. Speaking to Chinese media Red Star News, tourists who were on-site during the accident said that there was a sudden rainstorm accompanied by hail, thunder, and strong winds. Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday urged all-out efforts to search for those who fell into the water and treat the injured after the boats capsized. (IANS)
Three killed in Phoenix restaurant shooting
Glendale, May 5: Three people are dead and five others were injured after a shooting at a restaurant in a Phoenix suburb Sunday night, police said. Police received calls reporting shots around 7:45 pm at El Camaron Gigante Mariscos & Steakhouse, Glendale Police Department Officer Moroni Mendez said during a briefing. Mendez said three people died from their injuries and five other people were injured by gunshots or shrapnel, KPHO-TV reported. Bystander Lupe Rodriguez said he ran to safety. He was shaken, but said he was grateful that he and his friends survived. (AP)
Moscow warns of internet disruptions
Moscow, May 5: Moscow residents have been warned of potential internet disruptions in the coming days due to security measures as the city prepares for the Victory Day parade, according to a media report. The advisories came ahead of the May 9 parade, where foreign dignitaries will converge for the 80th-anniversary celebrations of Victory Day in Russia, according to the News.ru web portal. Ottawa, May 5: The Hindu Canadian Foundation on Monday strongly condemned the call by Khalistani extremists on Monday to send back 800,000 Hindus to India. An anti-Hindu parade took place during the Malton and Etobicoke Nagar Kirtan at the Malton Gurdwara in Toronto, Canada. A video capturing the event is circulating widely on social media, featuring a large truck displaying a replica of a jail that included effigies of PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and EAM S. Trump to reopen Alcatraz prison
New York, May 5: President Donald Trump says he is directing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the notorious former prison on a hard-to-reach California island that has been closed for more than 60 years.
