TURA, May 7: In some heartening news in the case of the pastor who was shot by a group of alleged dacoits, the victim is well on his way to recovery as per latest reports, while the shooters remain at large.
North Garo Hills district police chief, Swapnil Pawar, said there is no breakthrough into the case as yet albeit all attempts are being made to identify the culprits.
“He (the pastor) is currently recovering in Guwahati, Assam,” the North Garo Hills Superintendent of Police said.
The pastor from the village of Chilpara, under Wageasi in Kharkutta in North Garo Hills, Biren Sangma, was shot at about 2 am on April 5 (Monday), when he went to the gate in front of his house upon hearing disturbances outside.
Without any provocation from the victim, Sangma was fired upon from a 7.65 caliber automatic pistol and was hit in the chest with the first bullet. He immediately made a break for his house but was fired upon again though this time, the bullet missed him.
The gang of alleged dacoits then fled from the spot in the vehicle they came in.
Immediately after the incident, the family members rushed the victim to Goalpara after which he was sent to Guwahati in a critical state.
