SHILLONG, May 9: Mawsynram MLA Ollan Singh Suin has expressed concern over the closure of border haats along the Indo-Bangladesh border in the wake of political turmoil in the neighbouring country.
Speaking to media persons, Suin also called for increased vigilance along the international border in light of the heightened tensions with Pakistan.
The MLA informed that there is not much to fear in his constituency as the Indo-Bangla border is mostly fenced, except for certain rivulets.
Lamenting the closure of two border haats in his constituency following the unrest in Bangladesh, he said, “The income generation of the people has also been affected as the border population was dependent on the border haat.”
