CUET-UG

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, May 9: Several students and parents have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the allotment of Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) examination centres outside Meghalaya by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
They are urging the state government to intervene and ensure that candidates from Meghalaya are assigned examination centres within the state.
Damanbha Lanong, a student, shared that it is extremely challenging for many to travel outside the state to appear for the CUET-UG.
He mentioned that several of his friends have been assigned centres as far away as West Bengal.
“Some students will need to stay out of town for three to four days, especially if they are appearing for multiple subjects,” he said.
U Suchiang, a single parent, expressed concern over sending her young daughter to Imphal for the examination. “It’s difficult for me to send her alone, and I am unable to accompany her due to my poor health,” she said.
Suchiang also mentioned that she tried to secure an appointment with Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma to voice her concerns, but was unable to do so as the minister has not been attending office due to illness.
Kit Bamon, brother of another student, highlighted the difficulty his sister faces in travelling from Jowai to Guwahati for the exam scheduled on May 26.
“So far, we’ve only been informed that the centre will be in Guwahati. We’ll know the exact location once the admit card is issued,” he said.
Bamon has appealed to the state government to step in and help relocate his sister’s exam centre to within Meghalaya.
It may be mentioned that on Thursday, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) have raised strong objections to the allotment of far-off CUET-UG centres to students from Meghalaya, citing repeated negligence by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the severe financial and logistical hardships it imposes on students and their families.
