Without the death certificate, I cannot even arrange the Indian visa
SHILLONG, May 13: Réka Kovács, the wife of Hungarian tourist Zsolt Puskás, is still waiting for official documents and answers a month after her husband was found dead on April 10 near Riewkuksan, along the trekking path to Tyrna in East Khasi Hills.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Réka said she has not yet received the police report, autopsy results, or death certificate from the authorities. “Without the death certificate, I am unable to apply for a visa to travel to India,” she said.
She also mentioned that she has not received any information from the Indian authorities since April 10. “I am still waiting for the police report on what exactly happened, the autopsy report and the death certificate. Unfortunately, even the cremation has not taken place,” she added
She expressed concern over the delay in completing the formalities, including the cremation. “We just want to come to Shillong, perform the last rites, and collect his belongings,” Réka said, adding that she plans to travel with one of Zsolt’s friends once the paperwork is in order.
She also mentioned that the lack of clear communication from the authorities has made the situation more difficult. She said, “Without the death certificate, I cannot even arrange the Indian visa.”
The case has been pending for a month.
“This is unthinkable in Europe,” she said.
Acknowledging the tense situation that India is in right now, she said “I hope it will also be resolved as soon as possible and the administrative process will be sped up. Knowing that we cannot bury him only deepens the sense of pain, grief and loss. And the constant, jumpy and uncertain situation is wearing on my nerves.”
