TMC pays homage to Indian armed forces with solidarity walk, candlelight vigil
TURA, May 18: Trinamool Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has said that in order to hide its failures, Pakistan continues to divert the narrative by fuelling unrest and provoking conflict, such as the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking during a candlelight vigil and solidarity walk held in Tura on Saturday to honour the Indian armed forces, Sangma referred to Pakistan as “a failed state and a centre of civil unrest, chaos and disorder.”
“Whenever Pakistan tries to draw our nation to a war, our nation has responded on expected lines and befittingly. We, as citizens of this nation, are taking up this solidarity march to honour the bravery, valour and sacrifices of our defence forces. We can’t thank them enough,” said Mukul to the crowd.
The event, organised by the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), was also participated by Tura MLA Rupa Marak, party MDCs, members and residents of Tura. The march began at Captain Williamson Sangma Park and passed through Hawakhana and Tetengkol before culminating at the AITC office.
“We are witness to the chaos and conflict and wars across the globe. In the midst of everything, we pray for peace in our region, our country and global peace so that the global community can live as one. In spite of our desire for peace, we will always have challenges,” said Mukul.
Earlier in the day, a separate rally was held by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and local residents, led by Tura MDC Bernard Marak, to express gratitude to the armed forces.
