Traveller finds decomposing corpse on NH-6

SHILLONG, May 20: A decomposed and unidentified body was discovered early Sunday morning, near the roadside along National Highway-6 in the Kuliang area of East Jaintia Hills, prompting a police investigation into the mysterious case.
The discovery was made around 7 am by a passenger travelling from Mizoram in a Tata Sumo, who had stopped near the roadside bushes to relieve himself. Upon noticing a blanket emitting a foul odour, the passenger found the corpse inside
and immediately informed the Umkiang Police Patrol Post (PPP) personnel, who were on highway traffic duty nearby.
Sub-Inspector P Phawa and his team rushed to the site, approximately 8 km from the Kuliang PPP. An inquest was conducted at the scene, but no visible injury marks could be observed due to the body’s advanced stage of decomposition.
Initial assessments suggest the deceased was a male, aged between 35 and 40, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, of medium build and fair complexion. He was found dressed in a black trouser, green T-shirt, and a white thread tied around his waist.
The body was later transferred to Civil Hospital, Khliehriat, where a post-mortem examination was conducted. It is currently being preserved at the hospital morgue while authorities appeal to the public for help in identifying the deceased.
