Chief Ministers’ Conclave
SHILLONG, May 25: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Sunday joined fellow NDA leaders at the Chief Ministers’ Conclave chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with deliberations focused on propelling India toward the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
During the event, the CM gave a presentation on Meghalaya’s scheme for accountable governance.
This was among the seven best governance practices, including the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, presented by different CMs and Deputy CMs. Modi suggested forming a committee to study their various aspects, including how they can be integrated elsewhere.
In a social media post following the event, Sangma said the discussions revolved around advancing good governance, fostering inter-state collaboration, and sharing successful models to accelerate national development. “Deliberations were held to strengthen our collective efforts toward realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” he wrote.
“We also paid solemn tribute to the bravehearts of #OperationSindoor and to the unwavering courage of our armed forces, who safeguard the nation across all fronts,” Sangma stated.
Reiterating a strong stance against national threats, the Chief Minister added, “India stands united against terrorism and all forces that threaten our peace and security.”
The conclave, seen as a strategic step ahead of long-term policy planning, underlined the Centre’s push to make state governments equal partners in achieving the 2047 development goals.
Addressing the conclave, Modi said the success of Operation Sindoor was an endorsement of the country’s push towards self-reliance in the defence sector, an apparent reference to the important role played by indigenous defence technology in the recent India-Pakistan conflict.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that caste enumeration is a step towards bringing into the mainstream of development those left behind, as he emphasised that his government does not believe in caste politics but in the empowerment of the marginalised.
A synergised effort from the NDA-ruled states can speed up the realisation of ‘Viksit Bharat’, he said.
Sources said the prime minister also asked leaders to avoid the tendency to speak out of turn, seen as an expression of disapproval in the backdrop of political rows triggered by insensitive and contentious remarks made by members of the ruling alliance at several places following Operation Sindoor.
