SHILLONG, May 26: The Meghalaya government is now exploring the idea of constructing an oil depot somewhere in Ri-Bhoi district.
Sources from the government informed that two locations in Umbir and Umran have been identified for the oil depot. “There is a huge land and both locations will be shown to the Indian Oil Corporation to check the feasibility of the place,” sources said.
If this idea comes to fruition, Meghalaya, which is often taken to ransom by unions from Assam threatening to stop the supply of petrol and diesel, will find itself in a much more comfortable position.
Meanwhile, the bottling plant near the ICAR in Ri-Bhoi is also in the works and the project has achieved around 60 per cent completion.
