SHILLONG, May 27: A Special POCSO Court in East Khasi Hills on Monday convicted Strongman Kharbani, sentencing him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 50,000 for offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The judgment, delivered by Special Judge (POCSO) MK Lyngdoh, found Kharbani guilty under Section 10 of the POCSO Act. In the event of non-payment of the fine, he will undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.
The offence was committed in 2019. At the time, the minor victim was only 3 years and 10 months old and is related to the convict. Kharbani was found guilty of committing aggravated sexual assault on the child.
The case was investigated by WPSI L Kharjana, while the trial was conducted by Special Public Prosecutor Evalarisha Rynjah.
