SHILLONG, June 16: The work for launching of the girder for the new bridge over the Umshyrpi river at Rilbong will be over by Wednesday evening. An official executing the work said three out of four girders have been launched and the remaining work will be completed by Wednesday evening, bringing respite for city residents from the massive traffic gridlock.
There will be some wielding work as well following the launching of the girder, the official said.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills Police has extended the traffic restriction in the area between 10 PM and 5 AM for three days till June 18.
As per the directive, vehicles proceeding from Upper Shillong towards Umshyrpi bridge-MES Point will be diverted at 5th Mile, Upper Shillong towards Pomlakrai-Laitkor-Madanrting-Laitumkhrah and beyond.
Vehicles proceeding from Lumdiengjri area / Old Cherra towards Upper Shillong via Umshyrpi bridge will have to take the route from Laitumkhrah-Madanrting-Laitkor-Pomlakrai-5th Mile, Upper Shillong and beyond.
However, emergency service vehicles will be allowed to ply through the normal route.
