Shillong, June 27: In a landmark achievement for Indian combat sports, five young athletes from Meghalaya have returned triumphant from the Asian Muaythai Championship 2025 in Vietnam, clinching an impressive total of ten medals for the country.
The Asian championship, held from June 20 to 26 in Thai Nguyen Province, showcased Asia’s best in the ancient martial art—and the Meghalaya contingent stood tall among them.
Representing the Meghalaya Muay Thai Association (MTAM) under the banner of the United Muaythai Association of India (UMAI), the team included Bansahnamkyrpang Warkhyllew, Aristone Syiemsad, Teiboklang Marbaniang, Mary Cristine Riang, and Anita Rai—all of whom returned home with medals draped around their necks and pride in their hearts.
Bansahnamkyrpang Warkhyllew bagged two bronze medals in the Combat and Waikru categories (45 kg). Aristone Syiemsad earned a silver in Maimuay and bronze in Combat (57 kg). Teiboklang Marbaniang won silver in Maimuay and bronze in Waikru (51 kg). Mary Cristine Riang showcased exceptional versatility, clinching three bronze medals across Combat, Waikru, and Maimuay (45 kg).
Anita Rai added to the tally with a bronze in Combat (48 kg).
Their consistent performances on the international stage reaffirm Meghalaya’s emergence as a budding force in Muaythai.
