SHILLONG, June 28: Shillong’s first modern shopping mall, located in Polo, is set to be inaugurated in July.
Commissioner and Secretary of the Urban Affairs department, Vijay Kumar, revealed that the government plans to formally open the mall next month. The facility will be jointly operated by Shillong Smart City Limited and the Shillong Municipal Board.
Regarding shop allotments, Kumar stated that the process will be conducted through a tendering system. “Tender documents will be issued next week,” he said.
The Polo Shopping Mall, built under the Shillong Smart City project, is now 100% complete. Constructed by Badri Rai Company at a cost of Rs 85 crore, the mall spans a total built-up area of 1.5 lakh square feet.
The six-storey structure will house 90 shops and feature mechanised car parking facilities. Key highlights include 12 escalators, five lifts, a food court, EV charging stations, office spaces on the fifth and sixth floors, and a dedicated kids’ zone.
The shopping complex is expected to offer Shillong residents a modern, high-quality retail experience and marks a significant addition to the city’s commercial infrastructure.
